Hello everyone! My name is Isa DeMoraes, and I am a sophomore studying social work. This is my second year in the Student Movement, and this year I have the opportunity to serve as the section editor for Arts & Entertainment. I am from Texas and have a Brazilian background. As a musician, avid movie lover, and overall appreciator of the arts, I think that A&E is a very important part of the paper. It is a space to highlight the creativity that happens both on and off campus, whether that’s a performance at the Howard Performing Arts Center, a new campus production, or a discussion about a popular movie or show. I’m really excited to work with all of the writers in this section and see the different stories brought to life this year. I hope you enjoy reading our section just as much as we enjoy putting it together.
Hello, my name is Anna Rybachek, and I am a senior. I am majoring in biology, psychology and Spanish! A little fact about me is that my comfort genre is murder mysteries, a broad category that encompasses thrillers as well as cozy romcom mysteries. I love baking and also eating said baking, the scent of candles in a room, movie nights, or really anything, with friends, and flowers sitting in a jar in my room (I also like uncut flowers in their natural environment, but there is something so nice about a flower arrangement you can touch and smell always). I also enjoy writing, so look out for Arts & Entertainment articles from yours truly in the future; there may even be one in this issue!
Hi everyone! My name is Ysa Dennis, and I am a junior studying digital communications, concentrating in public relations. I'm originally from Jamaica, but I have lived in Barbados and currently live in Virginia! If you haven’t seen me on campus yet, that's because I am currently doing a year abroad in Spain with Adventist Colleges Abroad! I love traveling, photography, film and my calico cat, Star! My favorite movies are thrillers, comedies and horror. I also enjoy writing and reading about popular culture, as it is a definitive part of staying connected with people and trends worldwide. Hi, my name is Audrey Lim, and I’m a senior studying Sociology and English, Pre-Law. I’m from Southern California, and I like to play volleyball and the bass guitar, and I enjoy entertaining books, films, and shows. This is my fourth year writing for the Student Movement A&E section, and I love to analyze pop culture media and cultural trends in my essays. Some of my favorite media I’ve consumed include The Cruel Prince and Six of Crows series, 10 Things I Hate About You and Kiki’s Delivery Service, listening to Sade and the La La Land soundtrack, and Mina Le video essays!
