Position summary
The Student Office Assistant provides reception, customer service, and administrative support to several university offices. The position serves as a welcoming first point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and visitors, assisting with inquiries in person, by phone, and through email. Responsibilities include providing general information, directing individuals to appropriate resources, and completing a variety of clerical and administrative tasks that support the daily operations of the offices.
Qualifications summary
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with a friendly, welcoming, and professional approach. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Must be dependable, organized, patient, and able to manage multiple tasks. Demonstrates initiative, discretion, attention to detail, and a genuine desire to help others. Previous customer service, reception, or office experience is preferred.
Duties and responsibilities
- Greet students, faculty, staff, and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
- Assist individuals with general questions and requests.
- Direct visitors to the appropriate office, individual, or university resource.
- Provide reception and hospitality desk coverage.
- Maintain an organized and welcoming reception and work area.
- Assist with special projects, clerical duties, meetings, and events as needed.
- Handle university information with appropriate confidentiality and discretion.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.

This position requires frequent interaction with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and visitors. The student worker must provide friendly, courteous, and professional customer service. The role requires active listening, patience, respect, and the ability to communicate clearly with individuals from diverse backgrounds. The student worker may also need to respond to questions, direct individuals to appropriate resources, and handle concerns calmly and professionally while maintaining a welcoming and helpful environment.
